Wang Gongxin (born in 1960 in Beijing) is one of the most important representative of Chinese video art.

Together with Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, famous Chinese video artist Wang Gongxin will show us his new series of works "Relating" opening at 15:00 p.m. on June 5, 2010 in Space A, Platform China. The show will include the first two works from the "Relating" series: "Relating - It's About 'Ya' " and "Relating - It's About Dream" .

"Relating - It's about 'Ya' " is a 9-channels video installation with color and sound, 6 minutes long. The artist takes inspiration from the common action of clicking on links while surfing in Internet. The user usually clicks on a link and moves from page to page; eventually, this will lead to a page which has nothing to do with the main content in the one from where he started. Played and controled by a computer program, this  video work guides the audience through a visual journey from images  that are related to the sound "Ya" . The audience,  accompanied  by the change of sounds and images  displayed in the sequence set by the artist, will be introduced to image after image the last of which will thematically have nothing to do with the original one. The experience of the audience will interact with the artist's    experience during the whole journey through the show.

The other work "Relating - It's About Dream" , is a video installation that comprises  200 2.4 inch LCD screens installed and arranged on 5 floating single beds. The beds are placed 1.3m up in the air in a very unusual position. The work displays 100 sleeping men and 100 scenes and objects in loops of 3 minutes each. With the same sound of a rythmical snoring, the  images of the sleeping men gradually change from blurred to clear, and the scenes and objects turn from positive to negative.

We have attempted to interpret this work with conventional methodology and vocabulary, that effort appear rather useless and ineffective. This exhibition presents a different way  for the audience to look at things, and it represents those little things that we usually ignore in our daily lives. This attempt enriches the expressions of visual languange and let us considerate the uncertainty in artistic language. It becomes a communication and development between the personal and the public experience, which is an exploration of the transcendental experience through the video languange used by the artist.
